Skin Tag Removal Sydney

Skin tags (acrochordan) are usually the size of a grain of rice and can be removed simply by sealing off the supply of blood.

What Are Skin Tags?

Skin tags are tiny flaps of skin, shaped like a tear or a diamond, which are attached to the main surface of the skin by a narrow piece of skin tissue. Like all fibrous growths, they receive their blood supply and nourishment from the dermal layer through the epidermal layer.

Skin tags are invariably benign – non cancerous – tumours of the skin which cause no symptoms, unless it is repeatedly rubbed or scratched, as may happen with clothing, jewellery, or when shaving. Very large skin tags may burst under pressure.

They can appear on any part of the surface of the body (skin), but most typically exist in areas where skin may rub against skin, such as the eyelids, underarms, groin, upper chest, under the breasts and neck.

What Causes Skin Tags?

Skin tags are believed to develop due to friction between adjacent areas of skin or between clothing and skin. Common sites for skin tags include the underarms, chest (particularly beneath the breasts in women), neck, eyelids, and groin folds. Because of the increased skin-to-skin contact and friction, skin tags are more common in overweight or obese people. Although skin tags can sometimes be seen in children, they tend to increase with age and are most common in middle-aged and older individuals.

How Do You Remove Skin Tags?

To remove these tiny unwanted growths, their blood supply must be cut off, so that they will wither, atrophy, dry up and drop off. This is accomplished by accurately cauterizing the part of the skin to which they are attached on the skin’s surface.

Skin tags are treated with our SplashProbe which offers a rapid treatment with instantaneous results.

The SplashProbe works on the principles of radio vaporisation by various probes. High Radio frequency technology utilises a current that is attracted to liquid on the skin surface.

The SplashProbe uses these frequencies to treat minor skin abnormalities without penetrating the skin’s surface. The SplashProbe treatment is performed with minimal discomfort, feeling much like a tight pinch to the skin. No anaesthesia is required for the removal of skin rags.
